Comments : I have a beautiful Maremma named Tessa, she was a rescue dog and was abused for the first 12 months. She is now 2.5 and a lovely girl, we live in suburbia but she is well exercised and is very protective of me as I have a disability and except when she gets really excited which is my own fault because I spoil her and stir her up before park time, she is the most gentle girl and I sometimes think of the things I would like to do to her previous owner as she still cowers when you go to pat her which is now habit.

Comments : I have a Maremma puppy named Bella Jacuzi. She is 11 months old. I bought her when she was 8 weeks old. I have always admired Maremma sheepdogs. I did a lot of research before I bought Bella. So may web sites recommend that the Maremma should not be bought as a pet. We live in the country and have a couple of acres with woods behind our house. We have 3 golden retrievers and 2 macaw parrots in addition to Bella. Bella gets along with all the dogs and birds. She is a very good protector having a very loud bellowing bark when someone comes to the door. I love her very much.

Comments : I love that you honour and champion this breed of dog. The Mareema is very special and sometimes misunderstood because they are hardwired to give and protect. Very interested in a puppy as a working dog to protect chickens on acreage.

Comments : These are just the best dogs, aren't they. My girl Sheena, is nearly 11yrs old mow, and starting to show signs of age. ie stiff in the mornings, but doesn't stop her if she needs to check something out. Will be looking for my fourth puppy when she goes. Hope she lives forever. Bought from Shepparton Vic.

Comments : we have had a mareema for the last 12 years bought for my daughters horses to protect the foals but Maria decided she preffered being a people dog and that we were her pack and it was up to her to protect us especially my daughter and went often to competitions with her I always knew that she was safe when Maria was with her

Comments : Just found your site and it brought back such wonderful memories of owning a maremma. Our 'tomba' was with us for 12 wonderful, fun filled years. He was strong, funny, protective and loving. Everything that good maremmas are. My husband is of Italian decent, and we fell in love with them in Italy originally and then looked for a puppy when we returned to Australia.
Tomba was loved by all our neighbours, though his warning bark that someone was at the door did not always please them all the time. When we moved from Melb to the country he absolutely loved it.
Unfortunately he lost his battle with a tendon problem at age 12 - after a big operation that was not successful.
We miss him. I would encourage anyone with time and love to enjoy the companionship of a maremma as we did.
I am still not over him and don't know if I could ever have another dog, but if I do it will be another maremma.
Thank you for a lovely site. It is amazing how some similar traits are demonstrated through photographs. I will keep dropping in on the site to see future litters.
